Max Pellatt. Prince-Arthur Street, Montreal
The year is 1912 and Max Pellatt just opened his grocery store. In this residential neighborhood where shops were still few and far between, it turned out to be an immediate success. Max quickly got to know his customers personally and was on a first name basis with many of them. The Pellatt store was a place to meet neighbors and chat with them, exchange recipes and plan family events.
Jack Pellatt. Saint-Denis Street, Montreal
The business was growing fast and so was Max's family. In 1935, he moved the store to Saint-Denis Street. Max definitely had a knack for being in the right place at the right time! Many Montrealers still remember his store in the heart of the fashionable Plateau Mont-Royal.
In the early forties, his son Jack took over the business. One fine day, Jack took a look around the store and had an idea. He gathered the best fresh produce and delicacies and put them in baskets. It was a hit! Customers loved the tasteful presentation and trusted the quality of the products. Pellatt’s baskets were being brought to family and friends for all occasions.
In 1975, Jack’s son Fred and his wife Joy, took the original idea further and expanded the business into Cornucopia, a successful gift basket company. The dazzling combination of baskets and arrangements offering food, toys and beauty products evolved into a year-round service. Twenty years later, Cindy, their daughter, joined Fred and Joy, bringing even more energy to the company.
