1912, Prince Arthur Street, Montreal
The year is 1912 and Mr. Pellatt just opened his grocery store in this residential neighborhood where shops were still few and far between. It turned out to be an immediate success! He quickly got to know his customers personally. The Pellatt store was now a place to meet neighbors to chat, exchange recipes and plan family events.
1935, St-Denis Street, Montreal
The business was growing fast and so was the Pellatt family, so in 1935 the store moved to Saint-Denis Street. Many Montrealers’ still remember this store in the heart of the fashionable Plateau Mont-Royal.
In the early forties, his son took over the business and added a new twist. He chose the best fresh produce and delicacies and put them in baskets. It was a huge hit! Customers loved the tasteful presentation and trusted the quality of the products. Pellatt’s baskets were being brought to family and friends for all occasions.
In 1975, his son along with his wife, took the original idea further and expanded the business into Cornucopia, a successful gift basket company. The dazzling combination of baskets and arrangements offering food, toys and baby and beauty products evolved into a year-round service.
